Japanese architect Harada Shizuo will hold his solo exhibition “Amazing Animals 2023” in Taipei between April 8 and 22. Harada will also donate the proceeds from the sales of two artworks to Taipei Zoo in support of the institution’s animal adoption program. Hopefully, the act will raise public awareness on protecting our ecosystem and wildlife.

A renowned architect in Japan, Harada served as the chief planner for the 2005 Aichi World Expo in Japan. He is a longtime proponent of environment protection and wildlife conservation, stressing the importance of living in harmony with all creatures, reducing carbon gas emission, and coexisting peacefully with nature. The theme of his works is often connected to the environment and wildlife.
This is the third time for Harada to hold solo exhibition in Taiwan, after two showcases in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Works to be displayed at the upcoming event include the paintings of leopard cat, Eurasian otter, pangolin, polar bear, rhinoceros, and elephant.

Showing an interest in animals at an early age, Harada considered studying wildlife and primates at Kyoto University. However, he eventually enrolled in Waseda University and picked up a career in urban planning and architecture. Nonetheless, he continued to pursue his passion by incorporating his love for animals into his artworks, as well as advocating the beliefs of protecting our natural environment and coexisting with all creatures.
