According to YDO Director Liao Wen-ching, the youths’ favorite anime theme exhibition is organized to act as a link between schools and industries, demonstrating to youths how a hobby in anime can be cultivated into a specialized skill.
Since its inception in 2014, the YDO has strived to create a stage for the youths to express themselves. By hosting the inaugural Youth Anime Journey – Youth Anime Exhibition, the ambition is to transform the exhibition venue into a platform for youths to exchange anime-related skills and experiences. The exhibition will feature original anime creations by students from Taibei High School Design Department and Taipei City University of Science and Technology Department of Digital Multimedia Design, while Kadokawa Taiwan will also introduce anime talent education and promotion-related information, as well as an impressive display of costumes and props designed by the current cosplay prop master, so that youths and the public can catch a glimpse of the fundamentals of anime creation.
The Youth Anime Journey showcases the diversity of the students’ creations including graphic designs, anime videos, original comics, and photographs using various materials. The students have not only documented their experiences in life via anime creations but also embodied their whimsical, youthful imaginations into works of art. In particular, Wishing Star is designed by Huang Hsin-i, a sophomore student from the University of Science and Technology Department of Digital Multimedia Design. She drew upon the sorrowful yet hopeful emotions she experienced while listening to the Japanese song Planetarium as inspiration and combined them with imageries such as tears, the evening sky, lights, and the planetarium to create the extravagant, Japanese-western fusion elements that in turn culminated in her individualistic fashion design style.
The Youth Anime Journey – 2019 Youth Anime Exhibition will be held at the Youth Arts Salon on the 5F of the YDO (No. 17, Sec. 1, Renai Rd., Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City) from October 19 to November 10. The exhibition is open from 09:00~17:00, and admission is free. On the opening day of October 19, the Taibei High School sketch club will be performing free figure sketches for the public, while cosplay accessory production workshops and ink wash animation experiences will be conducted every weekend during the exhibition. Please refer to the YDO’s official website for further details.
