Water droplets accumulate and converge into a river, eventually flowing into the sea in an endless cycle, much like the creative process of Huang Ko-Chuan. His work transcends time and space, reflecting the eternal. Huang excels at blending Eastern and Western painting techniques and styles, gathering, colliding, purifying, and fusing them like a spring, creating his unique aesthetic. He has refined the ancient Eastern "wax-resist" technique, using the texture formed by ice cracks to depict landscapes or abstract art, adding rich layers and creating distinctive visual effects. The work expresses the tranquil spirit of Eastern ink painting while integrating the vibrant colors of Western art, demonstrating fluidity and rhythm akin to the flow of rivers, full of boundless vitality.
Huang Ko-Chuan's works have been selected for the São Paulo International Biennale in Brazil. He participated in the Taiwanese modern painting movement and, along with artists such as Zhu Dequn, Yang Yingfeng, and Chen Ting-Shi, founded the "Republic of China Society of Painters" and the "Republic of China Society of Printmakers," laying the foundation for the development of contemporary Taiwanese art.
Each year, Apollo Art Gallery holds the "Master Legacy" series to honor Taiwanese pioneering artists. On the occasion of Huang Ko-Chuan's 105th anniversary of his passing, this exhibition commemorates the great artist. The exhibition mainly features over ten works of wax-resist art, along with mixed media pieces. We welcome you to visit and enjoy the show!
