Looking Back from Offshore: Re-imaging Taiwan through Blurred Boundaries
When we speak of ''Taiwan,'' we often imagine the island as a clear center defined by its coastline. ''Unsettled Territories'' shifts this perspective outward, turning instead to the geo-relational networks beyond the island and inviting viewers to look back from offshore.

This approach considers the interior through the exterior. When political signifiers such as ''nation'' and ''sovereignty'' are set aside, Taiwan emerges not as an isolated point but as a dynamic node shaped through movement, encounter, and lived experience. Here, boundaries are no longer fixed geopolitical lines, but are woven from departure, arrival, and the echoes of body and memory across places.

The ''unsettled'' of the exhibition title suggests an ongoing state of suspension—never fully arriving, never fully at rest. ''Displacement'' evokes fragments shaped through the search for belonging, while ''memory,'' like a distant lighthouse, guides both return and continuation. Together they form an unsettled territory that is neither refuge nor final destination.

Rather than framing diasporic experience through war, colonial histories, or national narratives alone, this exhibition invites a closer encounter with the fragile yet essential moments often overlooked within them, asking essential questions: What is this place? What is home?

''Unsettled Territories'' unfolds through three interwoven axes that explore movement and the shifting of boundaries.
