Nanmen Market is the first choice for many locals in Taipei if they want to buy dry foods, ingredients, and goods for the Lunar New Year. The Market sells all sorts of Chinese dry foods, Cantonese foods, Sichuan foods, Zhejiang foods, noodles, and sausages, which are normally difficult to find in the market. During the lunar new year, people swarm into the market to shop for the new year.
However, due to the scheduled renovation of the old Nanmen market and construction of MRT Wanda Line, the whole market was temporarily moved to No. 55, Section 2, Hangzhou South Road. The renovation was completed on November 13, 2019, and the announcement of its official opening was made.
Though the makeshift market is a temporary building, it is still designed with the concept of green architecture, including the preservation of a great number of existing arbor trees on the site. Also, many plants were planted in the surroundings in order to continue the ecological protection.
