Guandu used to be a sulfur-producing and exporting town in the past. It was a military fortress with turrets in 1895. It has also been hit by a meteorite which is suspected to have left remnants in Guandu Elementary School Ziqiang Branch.

The Guandu Riverside Park covers a vast area. Besides pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths, the Guandu Wharf is also one of the boarding locations along the "blue waterway".

Here, rich intertidal ecology offers opportunities for observation and research. Every afternoon, dusk and night, visitors can enjoy variegated vistas and sceneries, especially the views along the Tamsui River, the sunset sceneries of the Bali Guanyin Mountain, and the dazzling landscape lights on the wharf at night.
