Gongguan Riverside Plaza is a recreational area in Taipei, near the Xindian River. It is the only landscape section without embankment in Taipei and was the city’s very source of water 100 years ago. Providing a space for resting and admiring the riverside scenery during weekdays, the plaza is one of the few urban recreational areas fully used for 24 hours. In the morning, people come here for morning exercise, Tai Chi, jogging and cycling. A bike rental station is available for visitors to enjoy a leisurely ride along the riverside bikeway. At night, there are stands with exotic foods and bars in unique styles, and even free live band performances on Friday night to go with the tasty foods by the riverside, making the plaza a unique outdoor bar area in Taipei City.
To the south of the plaza is the PIPE Live Music, which was transformed from the city monument, “Raw Water Pumping Station.” After 10 years of planning and operation, it has become a successful case of turning a historic pumping station into a live house, which is rare even in the world. With more than 300 music performances held every year, it is not only the first stage of many famous Taiwanese bands, but also an inspiring place for lots of young people to learn the hardware technologies of lighting and sound.
On weekends and holidays, a market featuring the cultural, creative and handmade products of young creators is regularly held in the plaza, together with a live DJ performance. Come and enjoy the enthusiasm from the market and a feast for the ears from the music together!
