In August 1889, the first Taiwan provincial governor, Mingchuan Liu, completed it, connecting Sanchongpu (now Sanchong District) with Taipei Dadaocheng Port. In 1895, the bridge was called Danshui Bridge, a vital transshipment port in the Dalongdong and Dadaocheng areas. On February 27, 1947, the Tian-Ma Tea House Anti-Smuggling Smoking Incident occurred. The following day, on February 28, a protest march launched from the current Taipei Bridge.
