Sanxia Qingshui Zushi Temple 三峽清水祖師廟

Anchor point

The temple was originally called "Changfuyang", which was renovated by the deceased artist Li Meishu. The temple has been the local religious center since the mid Qing dynasty. The main body of the temple has been rebuilt several times because of destruction caused by earthquakes and wars. After the restoration of Taiwan, the famous artist Li Maishu volunteered to take on the renovation work and led a group of art college students to undertake the long-term restoration project. In addition to complicated traditional techniques, Li also introduced several innovative craftsman skills, especially in exquisite copper relief and statues. Dubbed as an oriental art palace, this temple is a dream-come-true of an artist who combines artistic skills of Japan and Europe in his work. There is always a metaphor or a story to tell at any corner of this place, which is not only a busy temple, but also a piece of architecture with very high artistic value.

    Historical temple

This temple is one of the four famous ChingShui Monk Temples! First built in 1767, private teaching was giving in 1813. First renovated after earthquake in 1833, 2nd renovation was done in 1899 from wreckage by Japanese. 1947 started another renovation after World War II. People warships ChingShui Monk because he had so many good deeds before and after his passing! This one in SanXia as same as others has incredible stone, wood carving! That is part of why people must preserve the landmark as well as its history.

    Must visit

There are only two types of visitors here - those who are here to worship or those who are here for the architecture. Be one of these two.

    Beautiful decoration

Tsu Shi Temple is a temple which is located near Sanxia Old Street. Since Sanxia is a small town, it is very easy to find. What is remarkable is the decoration of this temple. Sculptures on columns are just admirable.

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful temples in Taiwan. If you happen to be in Taipei, make the day trip to see this temple. There is a lot of detail in the carvings all over the building and you can combine this with Sansia old street.
