Launched in 1986, the Taipei Marathon has become a major event for the city, accredited by the World Athletics organization as a bronze-level event, and the first internationally certified urban marathon in Taiwan. The race routes are certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and by the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association in tournament achievements. With both full marathon and half marathon categories, the tournament is a grand event that attracts an estimated 28,000 runners, with a goal to ultimately join the ranks of cities that hold a world-class gold-level marathon.
