First held in 1986, this event is one of the most important for Taipei City marketing and tourism promotion. In 2018, it was categorized as a Bronze Label Road Race by World Athletics (WA) and was the first certified “urban marathon” in Taiwan. This year, its level has been raised to Elite Label by WA. The route has also been certified by The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races for distance and results certified by the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association. The route starts at the square in front of Taipei City Hall and ends at Taipei Stadium. The event has Marathon and Half Marathon sections and attracts around 28,000 runners. The aim is to gain even higher certification from WA and become one of the world’s top marathons, in the process polishing the Taipei City brand so it shines even brighter internationally.
