Taipei Marathon, held since 1986, is one of the most important activities for Taipei City in terms of urban marketing and tourism promotion. Receiving the Bronze Label by the World Athletics organization in 2019, it became Taiwan's first internationally certified urban marathon. After adjusting regulations to meet requirements by the World Athletics organization, Taipei Marathon became an Elite Label event in 2021. In the future, the organizers will further strive to receive an even higher-label certification. Runs start at Taipei City Hall Plaza and end at Taipei Stadium with about 28,000 runners participating. In order to encourage more diverse groups of people to participate and make the event friendlier, in 2023, in addition to visually impaired runners physically disabled athletes in wheelchairs were invited again, showing the boundless love of sports.
