Astoria Confectionary & Café 明星西點

Anchor point
No.7, Sec. 1, Wuchang St., Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City Taiwan, R.O.C

Located a stone's throw from Taipei Main Station, this old-time confectionary presents a taste of yesteryear Taipei along with its popular Russian-style pastries. The cakes made here were the favorites of the late ROC President Chiang Ching-kuo and his Russian wife Faina Chiang Fang-liang. The second floor area is one of the best spots in town to experience the ambiance of Taipei's early cafes.

The signature treats at the Astoria are zhongshan-style and traditional pineapple cake, walnut cake and Russian sweets. The old-style pineapple cake was rated Taiwan's best in a 2006 competition. The Russian walnut sweets are another Astoria specialty. Chock full of walnuts, they are especially chewy and delicious when eaten chilled.

Best Bistro from Russia in Taipei

This restaurant was founded in 1948 by six white Russians who came to Taiwan from Shanghai,China. This place were filled with all the scholars, actors , writers. I visited there for afternoon Tea time. It was great and not expensive. We had best Russian soup, Salmon club sandwiches and dessert plat. It was absolutely delicious. We will return there soon!!!

A cafe with history, lost its flavor after the renovation

The bread and confectionary at this place is very delicious. In its early years, it was well-known for its russian confectionary and milk toast. The cafe was a gathering place of important writers in the 1960s. After its renovation 10 years ago, more guests arrived at the cafe, but cafe is expensive, fried rice is yummy, traditional bread and confectionary still available. Worth the visit!

    具有悠久歷史的咖啡廳, 但重修後有失風采
