Yongkang Commercial District, with Yongkang Park at its center, has been named one of Taipei’s best commercial districts. It includes Yongkang, Lishui, and Jinhua Streets, as well as the intersection of YongKang Street and Xinyi Road, Section 2. Although Yongkang Commercial District is best known for its cuisine, a walk through its small streets and alleys reveals a quiet, relaxed, and cultured atmosphere that attracts a constant stream of visitors.

Yongkang Commercial District’s history can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty. Thanks to the construction of Gongguan Liugong Canal, a system of canals and irrigation ditches that once crisscrossed Taipei, scattered farmhouses began to spring up around the once empty fields surrounding what is now the Yongkang Commercial District. During the Japanese Colonial Period, the Japanese civil service and the neighboring university staff dormitories were concentrated here, which helped lay a strong foundation for the area’s unique local culture and customs. In the 1960's, the Treasure Palace Movie Theater crowd gradually gave impetus to the rise of local snack specialties. After the opening of the Daan Park and the completion of the MRT Xinyi line, Yongkang Commercial District began to take shape and gradually transformed into the area we know today.

Yongkang Commercial District is most renowned for its delicious and juicy xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), which are a food lover’s delight. Visit the mango ice shop most popular with tourists and you’ll see cool shaved ice topped with fresh, glistening mango—it’s a great way to cool off in summer! Other foods, such as beef noodles, green onion pancakes, dumplings, as well as colorful and diverse exotic cuisines, distinctive cafes and tea shops, antique art, daily necessities, and every imaginable kind of store, are all tucked away in Yongkang Commercial District, waiting for you to explore the elegance and charm of this leisurely neighborhood.
