Taipei Astronomical Museum
Do you know how to use a planisphere to see the constellations in each season? Do you know where the Milky Way is that separates the Weaver Girl and Cowherd constellations? Do you know how many times greater the stars of the Milky Way are, compared to the Earth’s human population? You can find the answer to these and more at the Taipei Astronomical Museum.
Located on Jihe Road in Shilin District, the museum sports many exhibition halls with audio visual displays—the most exciting of which is the Universe Theater, the largest dome theater in Southeast Asia. The golden cone aluminum-panel domed structure is 35 meters in diameter and houses a 180-degree screen. Using German Zeiss and digital planetarium equipment, it allows every audience member to enjoy a simulated night sky full of stars. Add to this the surround-sound audio, and you’ll feel like you’re in the midst of the vast universe.
The museum has nine exhibition halls that encompass ancient astronomy, space technology, the solar system, and the galaxies. The Cosmic Adventure is a fun educational ride that takes you through the stars along a 200-meter track – all to meet your dreams of becoming an interstellar explorer. During solar and lunar eclipses, special holidays, and celestial events, eager spectators flock to the Astronomy Museum to take advantage of its telescopes and professional guided tours to enjoy a rare glimpse at the celestial event.
The Taipei Astronomical Museum is always open for those who wish to explore the mysteries of space.
