All great cities are watched over by a Ferris wheel—the London Eye on the River Thames, the Roue de Paris, the Daikanransha in Tokyo. Taipei’s Ferris wheel is settled in scenic Dazhi’s Miramar Entertainment Park—the largest Ferris wheel in Taipei at 100 meters tall, and the first in Taiwan to be built on a rooftop.
The Miramar Ferris Wheel has 48 carriages, two of which have glass bottoms for extra excitement during the 17-minute ride.
From the top of the Ferris wheel, during the daytime you can watch the planes come and go from Taipei Songshan Airport, view the greenery of the mountains in Dazhi and Neihu, and the multitude of buildings and cars as they shrink to miniature size. At night, watch the stream of lights pass underneath the splendid Ferris wheel as the 624 neon lights that adorn the Ferris wheel put on three light shows designed after “earth, wind, and sky”. Together with the whimsical carousel, the Miramar Entertainment Park is a great place for families and couples on par with the Taipei 101 observatory.
