National Taiwan Arts Education Center
The National Taiwan Arts Education Center, Taipei Botanical Garden, National Museum of History, National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, and National Education Radio make up the prestigious Nanhai Academy.
The Nanhai Theatre sits on the left-hand side of the entrance to the academy. The round, traditionally styled building has a green glazed tiled roof and red pillars. The theatre stages plays, as well as music and dance performances with a capacity for over 600 people.
Further into the academy, Yin-feng pavilion sits next to a lotus pond. This pavilion is a perfect spot to admire the flowers and waterfowl and it’s always occupied with people resting or making art.
As you continue on, you’ll pass a bridge to the Nanhai Academy building. This was originally a shrine during the Japanese Occupation. It was later reconstructed into a square two-story building showcasing Japanese, Chinese, and Western architecture. Visitors can attend various activities in the art education classrooms, library, and exhibition room. The poem “Lou Shi Ming” handwritten by the famous calligrapher Li Xiaokun hangs in the halls of the academy.
The classical architecture in this traditional yet modern academy make many people feel nostalgic when inside. Come experience the artistic atmosphere of the National Taiwan Arts Education Center for yourself!
