If you want to experience the most outstanding views of Maokong with a little exercise, then you must visit the Little Sky Trail. Also known as The Mini Skywalk, the trail is accessible from the Little Sky Trail Station or Teapot station. You will know when you’ve arrived as you come to a 270-degree observation deck. As the name suggests, this ‘mini trail’ involves a leisurely stroll along a large and modern wooden pavilion, which interestingly has street lights that are powered by the sun! From here you can enjoy the exotic and unique views of the hills and tea terraces below. One very endearing landmark to look out for as you walk along is a heart shaped pond nearby.

As you walk along the Little Sky Trail and watch the farmers on the tea terraces, you can cast your mind back to scenes of the Golden Age of Maokong’s tea industry. This Golden Era began in the 1860s after a British businessman named Todd arrived in Maokong and helped the struggling tea industry to blossom. The tea in Maokong suddenly became a hot commodity around Taiwan. Can you imagine the hills swarming with farmers working to keep up with the high demand for tea during this Golden Age?

The Little Sky Trail is a spot for quiet contemplation and an opportunity to let the imagination run wild, and to set the senses free. The wide-open spaces, shining sun, and bird songs of the trail will make you feel miles away from the bustling city of Taipei.
