Dadaocheng Wharf
Would you like to take a river tour while you are in Taipei? Come to Dadaocheng Pier and you will experience something that you never had before.
Dadaocheng was originally the home of the indigenous Pingpu people. In 1853, a violent conflict broke out in Bangka, which is today’s Wanhua, and as a result, the people there moved to Dadaocheng, where they constructed streets along the bank of the Tamsui River. After the opening of Tamsui Harbor to trade, many sailing ships from mainland China docked at Dadaocheng. The tea trade flourished, and induced a local business boom. After Taiwan became a province, under the management of Governor Liu Mingchuan, Dadaocheng became the most bustling trading center in Taiwan. Areas around today’s Dihua Street, Guide Street and Yanping N. Road were the centers of business activity at the time.
This once-prosperous trading port has been transformed into a unique riverside scenic area in Taipei. Visitors can reach it by walking down to the end of Minsheng West Road after getting off at Shuanglian Station on the Tamsui-Xinyi Line.
Dadaocheng Pier is one of the stops on the Blue Highway. Visitors can take a boat and see the beautiful Tamsui River, or ride a bike and enjoy the rich rivershore landscape. When the weather is pleasant, apart from strolling under the romantic lighting at dusk, visitors can also view the dazzling light sculpture of trading ships from China, see the ships’ anchors, watch performances by street performers, gaze at the Tamsui River sunset, or take the Blue Highway on the Tamsui River.
