Have you ever caught Pokémons near a temple? Do you know that the Taipei Lantern Festival this year also features displays of lanterns at local temples?

Marking an unprecedented collaboration, the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) announced that the City has joined hands with 12 local temples to launch the “Pokémon Go” map, allowing visitors to catch elusive Pokémon creatures through a setting mixing tradition with modernity, as well as merging VR with reality.

Co-organizers include some of the most well-known and long-standing temples such as Ciyou Temple, Taipei-Fu Chenghuang Temple, Songshan Ci Hui Temple, Taiwan Provincial City God Temple, Taipei Tianhou Temple, Lungshan Temple, Bangka Qingshan Temple, Taipei Xia-Hai City God Temple, Baoan Temple, Zhinan Temple, Guandu Temple, and Cixian Temple.

Players of the game can access the “Temple Lantern Area x Pokémon Map” by scanning the QR code in the lantern festival brochure or by visiting the official activity website at https://2018.lanternfestival.taipei/ (Chinese).

The map also contains information on Temple Lantern Area, as well as details about the locations of Pokémon gyms and PokeStops. Visitors are invited to go after the Pokémon while embarking on a trip to discover hidden attractions in the vicinity of the temples.

TPEDOIT pointed out that although there won’t be exclusive items available for collection on the Pokémon map, vistors can expect to encounter big Pokémons on the streets of Ximending on the opening day and the weekend parade marking Chinese Lantern Festival.
