Maokong Gondola will be closed for 16 days from May 20 (Monday) to June 4 (Tuesday), 2019 for annual inspection and repair operation, and it is expected to resume operation on June 5 (Wednesday). In addition to notices posted in MRT and Maokong Gondola stations, related information will be announced through the MRT platform information display system, station public announcement, Go! Taipei Metro app, and Taipei Metro Facebook page for the public’s attention.

Following the recommended inspection and repair cycle, the Maokong Gondola will be undergoing major repairs and testing to ensure the system’s safety and reliability. The items of the annual inspection and repair include the overhauling of floating bearing, tensioning hydraulic cylinder, main motor, sheave assembly, and station entrance/exit direction installation, etc. The equipment renewal and improvement items include inverter replacement, electrical system control program configuration, station tracks and the painting of pylons, etc. The annual systems testing includes electrical dynamics, loading and operational testing, etc.

In addition, the annual inspection and repair of Maokong Gondola is usually scheduled in May in order to avoid the thunderstorm season between June and August. By late June it will be thunderstorm season and therefore the inspection and repair operation will be affected by the weather. At the same time, there is also the need to avoid the long weekends of Mother’s Day (May 12) and the Dragon Boat Festival (June 7) in order to provide the public with more alternatives for family outings.

The total annual ridership of Maokong Gondola in 2018 exceeded 2.11 million trips, an increase of more than 20,000 trips compared with 2.09 million trips of the year before last (2017), equivalent to a growth of 1.1%. Last year (2018), the system’s average availability was 99.99%, similar to the 99.99% of the year before last (2017), indicating the reliability of the system, making it one of the best performing POMA gondola lift systems worldwide.
