In a bid to promote tourism in Beitou, Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) has launched the 15-day Beitou Small Town Rambling activity today (October 16), which will continue until October 30.

In total, 5 unique routes have been designed by incorporating 100 well-known stores in Beitou that offer specialty gourmet delicacies, creative merchandises, and premium accommodation. During the event period, visitors may obtain a scratch card by presenting invoices from the 100 stores listed in the booklet on the same day of purchase, and they will stand a chance to win great prizes such as an accommodation voucher for two at Radium Kagaya International Hotel.

TPEDOIT Chief Secretary Hsiao Chun-chieh commented that Beitou was selected as a 3-star, must-visit town by the Michelin Green Guide Taiwan in 2011, and it was also selected as one of the Top Ten Small Tourist Towns in Taiwan by the Tourism Bureau, MOTC in 2012. This year, Beitou has been selected as one of the 30 Classic Small Towns in Taiwan, therefore the most popular itineraries have been designed for this event, including sightseeing, gourmet food, historic monuments, hot springs, and scenic photographs. The aim is to let tourists experience the fun of rambling through Beitou and introduce Beitou’s unique delicacies, creative products, and premium accommodation to citizens. Five online celebrity travelers including Hang TV will be invited to film 5 Beitou tourism-related videos and introduce various activities to attract potential travelers to visit Beitou.

Online celebrity couple John and Hang from Hang TV were invited to share exciting ways to travel in Beitou at today’s press conference. According to Hang, a Vietnamese girl married to a Taiwanese citizen and living in Taiwan, she once experienced the tea ceremony with her mother at the Beitou Museum many years ago, so she is very pleased to be able to revisit the destination. After the TPEDOIT invited them to film the video, many Vietnamese netizens have made inquiries about Beitou and expressed a high degree of interest in visiting the area in the future. They especially recommended the Shiang Yang School in Beitou and the Thermal Valley landscape.

To enhance the tourists’ shopping experience, limited-edition scratch cards have been designed for the event; by making purchases at any of the stores listed in the booklet, you will be able to obtain a scratch card by presenting the receipts, invoices or e-invoice (certification copy) issued by the store. Only a limited number of scratch cards will be handed out daily, while stocks last. The prizes include accommodation for 2 at the Radium Kagaya International Hotel, gift coupon for Solo Singer Hotel valued at NT$2,500, Hotel Royal Beitou’s European and French set meal and Hot Spring Store spa combo, and discount vouchers, etc. Every scratch card can be exchanged for a gift, limited to one scratch card per person per day by presenting shopping invoices.

The event booklet incorporates 100 specialty stores in Beitou under 4 major categories: food, transport, shopping, and entertainment. This is complemented by the “shop to exchange for scratch cards and win fantastic prizes” activity to cater to the diverse needs of tourists visiting Beitou. The tourists may obtain scratch cards and collect the event booklet at the MRT Xinbeitou Station Visitor Information Center, Xinbeitou Historic Station, Plum Garden (the aforementioned 3 locations are closed on Monday), Hot Spring Valley Store, and Taiwan Art Cooperation Philanthropic (while stocks last).
