As the cold winter is upon us, the air is no longer saturated with the sweltering heat of summer; instead, the crisp winter breeze signifies the arrival of the strawberry picking season. The most popular strawberry picking destination in Taipei City is none other than the Baishihu Community near Bishan Road in Neihu District.

According to the Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO), when the name Baishihu is mentioned, the spectacular dragon spine-shaped Baishihu Suspension Bridge immediately comes to mind. Taking a leisurely stroll from Bishan Temple, one will pass through the thriving Spring and Autumn Trail; after observing Baishihu’s native flora and insects at Guzhui Wall, visitors can head to the Heart Pond. In December, the GEO has cultivated a new flower species at the inner island of the Heart Pond – Longevity Flower, also known as Kalanchoe blossfeldiana – to introduce a touch of warm colors to the chilly winter.

GEO Slope Conservation Section Chief Chen Chien-Fan commented it is now the strawberry harvesting season at Baishihu Community. Local strawberries are cultivated on greenhouse racks, so there is no need to worry about muddy ground even in the rain, and the citizens can enjoy the joy of strawberry picking to their hearts’ content.

Visitors heading to the community may do so by taking the Chenggong Road Interchange at National Freeway No. 1, connecting to Chenggong Road towards the direction of Donghu before making a left turn at Jinlong Road into Bishan Road. Follow the road signs to reach the Bishan Temple parking lot and walk across Baishihu Suspension Bridge to get to the destination. For citizens making use of public transport, please take the MRT Wenhu Line to MRT Neihu Station and transfer to S2 or S2 Shuttle Bus to reach the destination. Families are welcome to visit the community to embrace the great outdoors.
