Are you still pondering where to go during the Chinese New Year? Are you concerned that the massive crowd at every scenic attraction will ruin your traveling mood? Let us tell you a secret location in Taipei City; in order to give back to the local communities and uphold the philosophy of creating a friendly environment, the Taipei City Government’s Public Works Department Sewerage Systems Office (SSO) – responsible for the treatment of sewerage in Greater Taipei – has constructed the Dihua Recreational Sports Park, a multifunctional venue on top of the Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant in Datong Dist., Taipei City.

This is the perfect location for you to burn away the calories you consumed during the Chinese New Year. In addition, the park is near Dihua Street – Chinese New Year Street Bazaar as well as historic monuments such as the Teacher’s Residence and Confucius Temple, making it a great getaway for traveling and exercising for the entire family during the Chinese New Year.

According to the SSO, the 4.6-hectare Dihua Recreational Sports Park is equipped with a free basketball court, tennis court, softball field, skating rink, and stone footpath, thus it has always been the local residents’ favorite recreational venue. It is also ideal for citizens to burn off the extra calories consumed during the Chinese New Year, while the children’s favored playground and activity lawn are perfect for the whole family to enjoy a fantastic time together. Besides the exercising, family facilities, installation art, and thriving flora, the park is adjacent to the Tamsui River, so visitors may take in the stunning view of the riverside sunset and night scenery from the cross-embankment lookout point featuring an LED arch design. Complemented by the splendid lights, this is a secret scenic destination in the city.

In addition to the park, SSO Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant Manager Lu Shih-Hsuan also recommends citizens visit nearby historic monuments including Dihua Street – CNY Street Bazaar, 44 Kan, Baoan Temple, Confucius Temple, and Teacher’s Residence, as well as to savor traditional delicacies during Chinese New Year. The Teacher’s Residence comprises 2 Fujian-style four-section compounds; due to its longstanding history and the Imperial Scholar flagpole in the front courtyard, it has been designated by the Ministry of Culture as a national historic monument. Everyone is invited to soak up the rich, serene cultural ambiance and catch a glimpse of its former glory. Since the park is located on the outskirts of the city center, you will be able to take a leisurely stroll down the trail of the historic monument and get away from the anxiety of congested traffic and suffocating crowd during the long weekend. The Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant is open around the clock, 365 days a year, providing you with a convenient, leisurely, and comfortable traveling option, so come on and make arrangements to embark on a healthy and cultural light journey in the city!
