With the continued threat from COVID-19, the Central Epidemic Control Center announced on June 23 that the island-wide Level 3 COVID Alert will be extended through July 12.

To raise public awareness on pandemic precautions, the Taipei City Police Department (TCPD) Mobile Division created COVID preventative measure announcement recordings in 4 different languages and dialects, including Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka, and English.

Police officers patrolling the streets of the city will broadcast the recording at set locations which see large crowds and pedestrian flow, such as traditional markets and big box retailers. The public message reminds residents to comply with the government’s pandemic prevention guidelines to reduce the risk of spread.

According to TCPD Mobile Division, Taipei City is a diversified and international metropolis. This is the reason for the agency to request staff members to record the public message in 4 different dialects and languages, hoping that more residents comply with safety precautions when they go out shopping for daily necessities.

The preventative measures include: 1) Comply with the Contact-tracing info registration mechanism in place at local markets and stores; 2) Wear face mask correctly; 3) Pay attention to hand sanitation, and 4) Maintain social distancing by avoiding crowded places.
