Great news for people looking for easier ways to access the subway! Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation unveiled the newly installed elevators at Exit 2 of MRT Zhongxiao Dunhua Station (near Tonlin Department Store) on December 18.

To celebrate the occasion as well as the holiday season, the areas around Longman Plaza and Dinghao Plaza (exits 14 and 12 of East Metro Mall) will host a display of artworks entitled “Planet of Miracles,” welcoming visitors with various types of illumination and Christmas festivities. The decorations will remain up through February 15, 2022.

Originally equipped with one escalator and one staircase, Exit 2 of MRT Zhongxiao Dunhua Station has been overhauled to accommodate two escalators, making it more convenient for senior citizens and those who are in a hurry. Located in front of No. 203, Zhongxiao East Road Section 4, visitors often utilize this exit to access unique eateries and exotic restaurants in the neighborhood.

MRT Zhongxiao Dunhua Station is also connected to the East Metro Mall. The bright and fancy undergrown shopping mall boasts a wide selection of goods and merchandises – from groceries to designer products. After a leisurely walk inside the mall, you can head to SOGO department store and the Dinghao and Tonlin commercial circles nearby, or even drop by the plazas to enjoy the Christmas decorations.

The installation of the new escalators at Exit 2 follows the Department of Rapid Transit’s new directives for accommodating an aging society: ensure a barrier-free entrance that is more accessible for riders, as well as ensuring that at least one exit on both sides of the road provides either escalators running in both directions or an elevator.

The agency pointed out that it expects to complete the installation of 60 escalators and 1 elevator for 22 station exits and 4 platform access points across 15 MRT stations before the end of 2022.
