The 2022 Taipei Lantern Festival will take place in Shilin between February 11 and 20. In addition to the 3 main areas of “MRT Jiantan Station Night Market Lantern Area,” “MRT Shilin Station Color Lantern Area,” and “MRT Zhishan Station Riverside Lantern Area,” the event also touts two main stages – the “Tiger Stage” near MRT Jiantan Station and the “River Stage” at the riverside display zone near MRT Zhishan Station.
Many visitors want to know more about some of the best ways to enjoy this year’s Taipei Lantern Festival. In response to the demand, the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) recommends several routes which people can take upon arriving at the respective MRT stations:
Route 1: Family Tour for Family with Kids
Itinerary: MRT Jiantan Station -> Meilun Park -> TCAP, Taipei Astronomical Museum, Science Education Center -> Shilin Night Market Commercial District -> MRT Shilin Station
The focus of this trip is the Taipei Science and Art Park, which comprises facilities such as the Taipei Astronomical Museum, National Taiwan Science Education Center, Taipei Children’s Amusement Park, and Meilun Park. In addition to the open-air playgrounds and education centers to keep the kids occupied, the organizers of the Taipei Lantern Festival will hold meet-and-greet sessions for children with characters from the kids show Hey Duggee at 3 PM on weekends during the festival period.
Route 2: Friends and Fun Expedition
Itinerary: MRT Jiantan Station -> Taipei Performing Arts Center -> TAIPEI 40 Main Lantern Display -> Jihe Road -> Shuangxi Riverside Park ->Shilin Night Market Commercial District -> MRT Jiantan Station
Visitors will immediately notice the Year of the Tiger themed lantern outside the MRT station. For more visual treats, stop by the main stage at Danan Road next to Shilin Night Market to watch the Main Lantern Show featuring the takeoff and landing of TAIPEI 40 Spaceship. The show takes place every 30 minutes.
Route 3: New Year Well-wishing Tour for the Entire Family
Itinerary: MRT Jiantan Station -> Taipei Performing Arts Center -> TAIPEI 40 Main Lantern Display -> Cixian Temple -> Meilun Park -> Shuangxi Riverside Park ->Shilin Night Market Commercial District -> MRT Shilin Station
Those choosing this route will visit a number of the temples and historical buildings in the neighborhood, as well as the main themed lanterns and the huge rack of traditional paper lantern sporting written words representing sites and characteristics of the district. Participants will also have a chance to enjoy the great food and scenic spots in Shilin.
How to Get There: TPEDOIT suggests that visitors take the MRT, as the event venues are located near MRT stations of Tamsui Xinyi Line such as MRT Jiantan, Shilin, and Zhishan stations. - Cancelled Bus Stop: The “Civil Service Housing” bus stop on the northbound lanes will be cancelled between 4 PM and 11 PM on February 12. Buses affected include routes 41, 250, 529, and R30.
- Road Closure: The most exterior line on Jihe Road’s northbound lanes (between Jihe Road Lane 251 and the intersection with Danan Road) will be closed to traffic between 4 PM and 11 PM on February 12.
