The Animal Protection Office (APO) announced that it will conduct pressure test for newly set up dog-walking sites “Datong Dog Activity Area” and “Xinyi Plaza Dog Activity Area” starting February 23. It invites dog owners to bring their furry friends on the day to experience the facilities and the great environment these facilities have to offer.

The pressure tests will last up to two weeks before official opening of the respective dog-walking areas (March 20 and May 1). The agency also welcome dog owners who visit the facilities to provide feedback via the HELLO TAIPEI system or the 1999 Citizens’ Hotline to help city hall. Their comments will help APO make these dedicated zones better and more comprehensive.

According to APO, the “Datong Dog Activity Area” and “Xinyi Plaza Dog Activity Area” were completed in December last year. The two destination were chosen to undergo pressure test to evaluate the impact of large crowds upon the canine-friendly facilities in urban areas. The operators will also collect user opinions to ensure that the facilities meet the needs of dog owners.

During the pressure test period, APO will allocate manpower to conduct cleaning, patrol, and replenish dog waste bags at the two facilities. It calls upon visitors to value public facilities and remind them to use the free dog waste bags to clean up after their canine friends. When leaving the area, they should remember to put the leash back on their dogs.

There are currently three dog parks and eight dog activity areas in Taipei City. With the backing from APO and citizens, a total of 6 dog activity areas is expected to open to the public this year.
