Ladies and gentlemen:

Good afternoon!

First of all, congratulate President Manfred Neun of European Cyclists’ Federation, for a successful Velo-city conference jointly hosted with Taipei City Government. In the past four days, more than 1000 delegates from over 40 countries experienced a remarkable journey. Speakers from a variety of professional fields shared with us their vision of a cyclisy-friendly city. We exchanged experiences about cycling, and take the lessons we learned to make our own city more cycling-oriented.

Cycling symbolizes an urban lifestyle of culture, slow living and sustainability. It brings changes to urban life, boosting economic development, citizen’s health and the awareness of environmental issues. My responsibility as the Mayor, is to align Taipei’s living quality with international standard. We have already made a stride by putting YouBike and bike lanes in place, but we have a greater goal. We will add more cycling facilities, so that our citizens will have a better life.

At the end of this conference, I would like to extend a most sincere appreciation, to European Cyclists’ Federation and all the delegates to this conference. Your dedication and support made the event a tremendous success. I invite all of you to come back in the near future. Taipei will host Universiade 2017, and I welcome all of you to visit us again by that time. I wish you all the best, and a safe journey home.

Thank you!
