In view of engendering sustainable developments in lifestyle and environment, the Taipei City Government has spared no efforts in creating cyclist-friendly routes, expanding the public bicycle rental system, and advocating cycling culture. The city's success story in promoting public rental bikes has enabled it to become the first Asian city to hold the Velo-City Global International Conference. The 2016 Velo-City Global will take place at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) from February 27 to March 1. "Velo-City Bike Parade," the highlight of the entire program, will commence at City Hall Plaza in front of Taipei City Hall, where participants may ride alongside Velo-City parade floats and enjoy a series of coordinated events.

Velo-City Global 2016 is centered around the "Evolution of Cycling." Professional cyclists and industry leaders from around the world will be invited to convene with representatives from research institutes as well as the public and private sectors. Topics will range from sustainable urban development, lifestyle transformation, industry economics, and bicycle design so as to explore how cycling changes our way of life. Sessions will include panel discussions and two-way track workshops that inspire creativity through interaction, and all participants are invited to join in the envisioning of a blueprint for urban cycling.

In addition to international conferences, Velo-City Global will also be holding a series of biking activities that will be open to the public. The "Velo-City Bike Parade" will commence at 3:00pm on February 28 at City Hall Plaza, where resplendent parade floats, techno-dancing prince deities and mascots will promenade the streets of Taipei in the spirit of joy and festivity. Visitors and citizens are encouraged to register as parade groups and showcase their creativity with costumes and embellished bikes, to become part of the spectacle and to join in the fun!

At the same time, the 17 kilometer "Cycling Parade" will set off from Ren'ai road. Taipei's Mayor Wen-je Ko will be joined by 4000 cyclists on a journey through Taipei's urban districts, elevated expressways, and scenic riversides before returning to City Hall Plaza. Participants will be able to fully experience the amazing sights and sounds of Taipei. Push Bike races for kids and Pump Track bike surfing competitions will also be held to demonstrate the diversity and versatility of cycling culture. In the evening, "International New Year Festival" activities will not only feature Taiwan's world-famous nightmarket street food, but also Taiwanese and aboriginal cultural performances. Economic and trade offices stationed in Taiwan will also join in the celebrations as Lunar New Year festivities draw to a happy end.
