During his address, Chiang remarked that this is the first time for him to attend the event on stage: in the past, he would be sitting among the audience. Despite being slightly nervous and excited, he would like to thank everyone for coming to the countdown event and wishes all citizens of the prosperous city a Happy New Year.

Regarding his expectations for 2023, Chiang hopes that we can all say goodbye to the pandemic and return to our normal life. He announced that in the new year there will be numerous activities and events taking place in Taipei and invited both residents and international tourists to come and experience the wonderful nature of Taipei.

The mayor stressed that the Taiwan Lantern Festival will return to Taipei after 23 years. Visitors will be able to enjoy a vast display of lanterns across Taipei City – especially at the section between MRT Taipei City Hall Station and MRT Zhongxiao Fuxing Station.

After speaking on the stage, Chiang stopped by the medical station and emergency response center to greet the staff members on duty. He expressed his gratitude to the workers for contributing to the success of the countdown party. He asked them to continue with their duties to ensure that revelers can go home safety after the event and retain a fond memory of New Year’s Eve.
