During his address, the mayor welcomes the ex-PM and his delegation to Taipei City. He also expressed his gratitude to the Japanese political leader for supporting exchanges between Taiwan and Japan. Chiang also mentioned that Taipei City maintains a strong relationship with numerous Japanese municipalities in the fields of disaster prevention, education, and entrepreneurship. It is also a partner city of Yokohama. Hopefully, with the help of Aso, the relations between Taipei and Japanese cities will continue to grow and prosper beyond into future generations.

Aso pointed out that the last time he visited Taiwan was 12 years ago. He noted significant changes of Taipei, spanning new buildings to trendy pedestrians. These scenes testify to the rapid progress of the island in recent years. He recalled similar developments and growth when he visited Seoul a few days ago, praising the efforts of both cities under the leadership of young and ambitious mayors.

The mayor cited numerous efforts made by the former prime minister in deepening bilateral relationship, such as realizing “workation” between Japan and Taiwan and direct flights between Songshan and Haneda airports. He stressed that the two nations share common values in freedom and democracy, and both emphasizes the importance of and the willingness to protect regional stability. The two sides also seek to contribute to the peace of East Asia through mutual benefit and assistance.

At the start of the meeting, Chiang presented a fountain pen designed by Taiwanese designer and three comic books to the former prime minister. The mayor received a Japanese manga stamp gift set from the Japanese guest.
