Focus on the Korean market: 3-day backpacking trip in Taipei at only 8000NTD!

To actively invest in the Korean tourism market, the Department of Information and Tourism will be attending the Hana Tour International Travel Show from June 9th to June 12th at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) and will be partnering with China Airlines to promote the FUN TAIPEI backpacking discount package: a three-day trip starting at 274,000KRW (8,000 NTD). Vivian Sung, the star of the hottest movie in Korea recently, Our Times will also be serving as the Tourism Ambassador to invite everyone to live through “Her Times” in Taipei!

Our Times, a Taiwanese film that has gained popularity in South Korea showcases several attractions Taipei has to offer. The Department of Information and Tourism sought this opportunity and not only prepared for a Taipei Hall to attend the Hana Tour International Travel Show for the first time, but also partnered with China Airlines to host the promotional party for FUN TAIPEI on June 8th at the Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Namdaemun hotel that just had its grand opening in downtown Seoul during May. Vivian Sung will be hosting the promotional party as the FUN TAIPEI Tourism Ambassador in Korean to express her welcome towards Korean tourists.

Vivian Sung stated that Taipei is the home of which she spent her teen years growing up in and that the most appealing aspect of living in the city is the freedom that it offers. Other than the must-visit attractions such as Dadaocheng, Yong Kong St. and the various unique cafés, DIY stores and bistros in Dongqu, Sung also recommends Taiwanese cuisine, Xiaolongbao and mango shaved ice for the foodies!

The FUN TAIPEI backpacking discount by the Department of Information and Tourism and China Airlines will commence simultaneously with the Travel Show, at only 274,000 KRW (8000 NTD) and up, customers can travel Taipei for three days with a travelling handbook, 48 hours of Wi-Fi by Chunghwa Telecom, one Easy Card ONE DAY PASS and a discount of over 1,000,000 KRW (30,000 TWD). Department of Information and Tourism official Chen Yong-Hua explains that the travelling handbook follows the theme of “Respond! FUN TAIPEI” this year and incorporated illustrations by illustrator Chiang Ya-Zhen that advocate for the must-buys and must-do’s of Taipei. Furthermore, the travelling handbook also included the Metro map and notes on travelling to help tourists experience a different side of Taipei.

According to the 2015 annual study on tourists in Taipei, there were around 9,550,000 visitors in Taipei in 2015. 620,000 of which were comprised of Korean tourists, increasing by a larger percentage than any other country of 24.84% compared to the 2014 numbers, marking Koreans as the 4th most common tourists in Taipei. The amount of Koreans visiting Taipei is also, for the first time ever, greater than the amount of Taiwanese visiting Korea. The Hana Tour International Travel Show in Korea this year also placed Taiwan as the most recommended country, promoting various Taiwanese products. In anticipation for the growth of the Korean market, Sunmerry (聖瑪莉), Kuo Yuan Ye (郭元益), Atami Hotel Taipei Onsen (北投熱海大飯店) and others will also attend the Show.
The Taipei Hall offers an assortment of unique souvenirs such as Macaron Nougats, Pineapple Cake, Longevity Cake, and Paper Lanterns as well as top rated items by Korean tourists: 3:15PM Milk Tea, Taiwan Fruit Beer, Mango Pudding by MangoChaCha, Nougat from Sugar & Spice, Original Black Tea from Zenique and Chocolate Gummy from I-Mei. Anyone who attends the activities at Taipei Hall will also have the opportunity to draw for plain tickets! Finally, the Lantern Festival and the Summer Universiade, both hosted in Taipei next year, welcome tourists to attend and cheer on the young athletes!
