Best known for the synchronized, robotic dancing moves, Japanese band WORLD ORDER is invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Taipei Lantern Festival. On February 3 rd , commissioner of the city’s Department of Information and Tourism, Yu-yen Chien paid a visit to WORLD ORDER’s rehearsal along with Bravo, the mascot of the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade. Chien presented pearl milk tea, which is the favorite drink for Japanese visitors when they come to Taiwan. Chien also assigned an important task to Bravo, asking the mascot to learn some tips on robot dance for a perfect performance on the opening ceremony.

Chien said that select Japanese cities are invited to take part in this year’s Taipei Lantern Festival, making the event more international and innovative. The collaboration with one of Asia’s most famous Japanese bands, WORLD ORDER, is a great promotion to the city’s tourism industry as such new arrangements are hoped to attract more international visitors to Taipei and boost Taipei’s visibility to the world. Chien also presented several gifts to WORLD ORDER, including a Beimen-themed mug, walnut and date bars and handheld lanterns of the Taipei Lantern Festival, hoping the band could remember the taste of Taipei through food and learn more about this city through the city government’s publications.

WORLD ORDER is good at combining visual illusion and robotic dancing. Suit-clad men in perfectly synchronized dance moves and repetitive signature hand gestures, create huge contrast that brings much surprise to the audience. Bravo had a hard time following the steps and its clumsiness was quite amusing for onlookers.

After taking one night rest since arriving in Taiwan yesterday, WORLD ORDER began practicing in a studio on Friday morning, where reporters were invited to shoot the rehearsal. It is WORLD ORDER’s first performance in Taiwan and band members attach great importance to this upcoming show and look forward to meeting fans. Through a video clip, they also greeted Taiwanese people with “ Happy New Year” and “Gong xi fa cai (Good Fortune)”, adding that Taiwanese are friendly and smiley. The band also says it will add the element of lantern in the performance to give audience a nice surprise.
