Born in the era of cultural and social changes, Shiy De-jinn (1923-1981) was at the forefront of Taiwanese art and culture with his unique style and larger-than-life attitude.

Shiy De-jinn's artworks show his keen observation and profound understanding of the subjects he depicted. He transformed what he saw in front of his eyes into what he felt in his heart, and created works from the depth of his soul. His painting style cleverly fuses the essence of Chinese and Western art, such as applying brushstrokes of watercolor to render landscape and architecture paintings with the rhythmic charm of brush-ink. His portraits demonstrate the artist’s superb artistic skills and his ability to capture individual’s spirit, and furthermore, reflect his exploration of human nature as well as self-identity. The diaries and letters left by the artist give us a glimpse into his inner thoughts on artistic creation, expression of gay desire, and insights on life attitude. He embraced life and created art with full heart. His stories and artworks still touch our hearts.

The museum has three artworks by Shiy De-Jinn. All of them depict local life in Taiwan and show his keen observation and deep affection for Taiwan's folk customs. Shiy De-jinn was passionate about living, and he, who had stayed true to himself, has left a dazzling and immortal mark on Taiwan and art history.
