Songshan Cihui Temple Muniang Cultural Festival- Procession Carnival
Event Time
Event Location
Songshan Cihui Temple, Xinyi Dist., Taipei City Taiwan, R.O.C
The annual procession of the Songshan Cihui Temple is a rare scene of hustle and bustle on the streets of Taipei. The sacred sedan of “Mother of the Infinite Jade Pond” is carried by faithful worshippers, and protected with over 100 floats and parade vehicles surrounding the area. The event connotes a religious meaning of evicting the evil and protecting the people. The one-day procession will pass major sections in Xinyi and Songshan district. The sedan will stop at the Songshan Train Station to give out grab bags and allow worshippers to crawl under the sedan chair to receive blessings. Performing teams include commonly seen holy generals and dancing lions and dragons, and dressed-up members of troupes performing traditional Chinese music, reading Taoist scriptures, and carrying out temple dances. This procession is a kind of alternative, religious carnival; and when the procession passes Xinyi Shopping District, it instantly becomes the center of attention for tourists as it showcases the city’s diversity and vitality.
