Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Animal Protection Office (APO) continues to organize the Taipei Animal Protection Month to raise public awareness on the wellbeing of our furry friends. Highlighting the theme of “I Love Furry Friends and Support Stray Animals,” the organizers call upon pet owners not to abandon their pets and avoid disturbing wildlife.
Starting in 2020, Taipei Animal Protection Month integrates three major animal-related events including the Taiwan National Dog Day, World Rabies Day, and World Animal Day. A series of related activities were held in September and October, including the press event on September 2, the results presentation for animal friendly environment on September 18, the World Animal Day commemoration event on October 4, and more.
Due to the level 2 COVID Alert, these activities were held both at physical venues and online to limit the number of attendees and lower the risk of spread. Nonetheless, the focus on animal welfare remains unchanged despite the restrictions.
The physical onsite events attracted over 1,470 participants, while the online counterparts saw more than 500,000 visitors and was reported in 100 news articles across multiple medias. The activities received many positive feedbacks from pet owners and the public.
In addition, to help animal-friendly businesses weather the pandemic and promote animal-friendly environment, the organizers collaborated with these partner stores to offer both discounts and online raffle opportunities. Top prizes include iPad Air4, pet interactive cameras, and IRIS automatic pet feeder. The campaign will last through October 31.
