Initially established in 1898, the Dadaocheng Public School campus was divided into two parts in 1909 due to the construction of Taiheicho Street (now Yanping North Road). The East Campus established The Dadaocheng First Public School (now Taiping Elementary School), while the West Campus is now Yongle Elementary School. Taiping Elementary School has many well-known alumni, such as artists Tu-Shui Huang and San-Lang Yang and renowned entrepreneur Zhen-Fu Koo. After the outbreak of the 228 Incident in 1947, the government used Taiping Elementary School as a place of detention for arrested criminals.
