Yang Zhao, the host of the program His Books on Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS), has received the top honor in the category of Education and Cultural Program Host at the 56th Golden Bell Awards!

According to the jury, Yang utilizes his knowledge in literature when reading the works featured in the program. The knowledge and perceptions he shares with the audience is more rewarding than those obtained by reading the books yourself. Yang’s natural and charismatic reading attracts listeners, making this a rewarding radio program to listen to – especially for literature enthusiasts.

Yang believes that talking about books is to share the rich and rewarding contents and open new horizons for listeners through the works. From the perspective of “introducing books without criticism and reading the books on behalf of the listeners,” the host picks contents which are appropriate to be read over the air, encouraging listeners to read more books.

Over the past four years, Yang has introduced over 500 books on His Books to his loyal listeners. The host remarked that the award is a vote of confidence for the contemporary meanings of “talking books” and “reading books.”

TBS Director Hu Hsiao-chien pointed out that not only Yang is knowledgeable about literature and history, his personal charisma expressed through the sharing of his own reading experiences highlights the principles and theme of the program. TBS will continue to serve the values of public-operated radio station and invite experts from different walks of life to host programs and bring in new vitality to let listeners hear the “sound” of Taipei City.
